Winter Activities in Branson

Celebrate the Holidays

No Missourian can deny the magic of Branson during the holidays. Illuminated by millions of lights, the Branson area’s old-fashioned festive spirit really comes alive during the holiday season. Make sure to experience Silver Dollar City’s jolly holiday showcase, An Old Time Christmas, taking place through December 30 in 2018. This annual celebration gets bigger and better every year, with more than five million lights, rustic holiday decorations, and plenty of family-friendly merriment. Silver Dollar City also transports visitors back in time with several Broadway-style holiday productions including “A Dickens’ Christmas Carol.”

The holiday fun doesn’t end there – Branson visitors can also take in a bona fide Ozark Mountain Christmas with a ride on the Polar Express or a visit to the Promised Land Zoo.

Shop ‘Til You Drop

The Branson area is home to an incredibly diverse shopping scene. From gourmet olive oils at Nika’s Olive to quirky gifts at Coffelt Craft Village, our region offers something for every shopper. That’s especially true during the holiday season. Make your list, check it twice, then head to the Branson Landing. The Landing is one of Branson’s premiere shopping destinations, offering a wide variety of boutiques, specialty shops, and dining options. The Landing is also home to an exciting holiday display, with a 50-foot Christmas tree towering over twinkling lights and festive shop windows. Tanger Outlet Mall also offers sales before and after the holidays, with deals on major brands like Adidas and Coach. Looking for something a little more unique? Branson is home to dozens of quirky craft malls – like the Branson Craft Mall, with 16,000 square feet of handmade crafts and edible treats.

Defeat Cabin Fever at an Indoor Water Park

Ah, cabin fever. This frightful ailment is dreaded by parents everywhere, turning even the most well-behaved little ones into grumpy, cooped-up goblins. But cabin fever is no match for Branson’s indoor water parks, which offer countless opportunities for kids to release their wiggles. Castle Rock Resort & Waterpark is a weatherproof option for the whole family, with 30,000 square feet for kids to explore. Castle Rock’s features include a 500 gallon bucket that soaks guests in need of a little excitement. Parents can unwind on the lazy river, while kids can take on the themed water slides. Branson is also home to Splash Country Waterpark, a huge indoor park housed inside the kitschy Grand Country complex. Splash Country attractions include a 1,000 gallon bucket, thrilling water slides, and a relaxing lazy river. Splash Country also features relaxing hot tubs, which are a great destination for weary grown-ups.

Marvel at Missouri’s Natural Caves

Fun fact: Missouri is known as the Cave State, home to more than 6,400 caves. Branson is widely regarded as a gateway to the breathtaking natural beauty of the Ozarks – making cave tours one of the most exciting winter activities in Branson. Of course, when you’re building your winter itinerary, you might not think of outdoor activities like spelunking. However, caves are usually located several hundred feet beneath the ground’s surface – which gives them a consistently moderate temperature. Even in the bleak days of January, most caves hover around 60 degrees Fahrenheit. If you’re visiting the Branson area in December, make sure to check out Marvel Cave. This cave’s entrance is located inside Silver Dollar City; however, it closes in January and February, so make sure to catch it while you can. If you really want to make the most of your caving experience, head to the Lost Canyon Cave and Nature Trail at Top of the Rock. This massive cave is located nearly four stories beneath the ground, featuring a dazzling waterfall. While you’re at it, sidle up to the Bat Bar, serving up a variety of creative libations inside the cave.

Get Schooled at a Museum

Winter activities in Branson might begin with the holidays, but they certainly don’t end there. Branson is full of fascinating museums that offer an informative retreat from the cold. If you’re visiting during the holidays, don’t miss the Titanic Museum, which is decked out for an Edwardian Christmas throughout the holiday season. Also on the list are the quirky Hollywood Wax Museum and the Branson outpost of the Ripley’s Museum. The latter is home to more than 450 unbelievable artifacts that will leave your jaw on the floor.
