The Keeter Center
The Keeter Center is a breathtaking dining, lodging, and meeting center located on the College of the Ozarks campus. While viewing the building from the outside, you’ll be taken by the grand, rustic lodge design, which sits within the beautiful, natural landscape – a sight that can only be experienced in the heart of the Ozarks. The building hosts 15 hotel suites, each lavishly decorated and equipped with amenities, including a fireplace, microwave, refrigerator, and (of course) an astounding view. The Keeter Center also features incredible food at the Dobyns Dining Room, a creamery that serves homemade ice cream, a bakery, and a gift shop. One of the best qualities about the Keeter Center is that it is run by a staff of students, who work hard to make sure each guest’s experience is one of a kind. The Ralph Foster Museum
In the 1920s, Dr. Robert M. Good, the President of the school at the time, became interested in creating an on-campus museum. He began displaying items in the basement of Abernathy Hall, which was then vacated and turned into the Ralph Foster Museum that thrives today. The museum focuses on collecting, preserving, and exhibiting items that relate to the Ozark region. One of the most notable exhibits you will want to check out when visiting College of the Ozarks is the culturally iconic truck from the television series “The Beverly Hillbillies.”
Edwards Mill
Edwards Mill, built in 1972, is powered by a 12-foot water wheel, which utilizes runoff water from Lake Honor. The mill grinds whole-wheat meal and flour and produces delicious mill-grain mixes that are available for purchase. Upstairs, Edwards Mill houses a weaving studio where students design and make rugs, shawls, and placemats – all created by hand or on traditional looms. You can also visit the basement below the mill to check out antique milling equipment and view some unique pieces of history.
The Fruitcake and Jelly Kitchen
The Fruitcake and Jelly Kitchen is a little gem on the College of the Ozarks campus grounds. This student run kitchen offers up to 20 different flavors of preserves and jellies and bakes over 100 fruitcakes a day! They also sell pancake mixes, funnel cake mixes, biscuit mixes, and other delicious products made from the grains at Edwards Mill. You can also take a tour of the kitchen between 8am and 5pm, Monday through Friday, to see what goes into making the scrumptious treats the Fruitcake and Jelly Kitchen offers.
The College of the Ozarks Greenhouses
The greenhouses at College of the Ozarks are quite a site! They contain over 7,000 plants, including an extensive, lush orchid collection that is spread amongst four different greenhouses. Whether you plan on purchasing some plants for your own garden or just visiting the greenhouses for the sheer natural beauty, be sure to bring a camera!
The Missouri Vietnam Veterans Memorial
The Missouri Vietnam Veterans Memorial is a powerful site which honors the 1,410 Missourians who lost their lives while serving our country. The memorial was built and designed by College of the Ozarks students and is recognized as Missouri’s official Vietnam memorial. The Missouri Vietnam Veterans Memorial is open every day until 10pm, and it is well worth stopping by to pay your tribute while visiting College of the Ozarks.
