Historic Downtown Branson

map with pin on branson, missouri

Tucked away in the Ozark Mountains, Branson is a small city of approximately 11,400 that has captured the hearts and imaginations of visitors for decades. Did you know that 60 Minutes nicknamed Branson “The Live Music Capital of the Universe”? Others have called it the “Las Vegas of the Midwest.” Branson’s list of attractions is a long one, but there’s one place where you can soak up a little of everything: Historic Downtown Branson. It combines the excitement of Branson with a bit of historic charm.

Historic Downtown Branson

Food

Mr. G’s

This casual eatery has been serving up piping hot Chicago-style pizza for more than 20 years. But don’t fill up on just pizza. This lunch and dinner joint is known for its toasted ravioli, melty subs, and crab rolls — a messy, melty delight consisting of cream cheese, leeks, and crab meat rolled inside thin dough, deep fried, and served with honey dijon sauce.

Mr. B’s Ice Cream Parlor & Deli

For a scoop of history, drop into Mr. B’s. This vintage ice cream parlor opened along Historic Downtown Branson back in the ’70s. It’s been dishing up milk shakes, ice cream sundaes, and banana splits ever since. Not only are there 20 flavors of ice cream to choose from, but this historic eatery also serves several old-timey, all-American favorites: hot dogs, chili dogs, and Frito pies. Eat up!

Juicy Smoothie

To kick off a day of sightseeing and adventure, stop in at Juicy Smoothie for a fresh-pressed juice, smoothie bowl, or nitro coffee. To really kick-start your day, try a nitro float. Ice cream and coffee? Yes, please!

Branson Cafe

No visit to Historic Downtown Branson would be complete without first making a trip to Branson Cafe. This historic landmark first opened in 1910 and has since appeared on 60 Minutes and Fox News thanks to its homemade pies, fresh desserts, and more than a century of down-home cooking.

Attractions

The Trolley

The easiest way to see all the shops, restaurants, and attractions on your list is to hop on the free trolley. This old-timey trolley makes a constant loop between Historic Downtown Branson and the Branson Landing. Rides run seven days a week from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., March through December with the exception of Thanksgiving and Christmas day.

Dick’s Old Time 5 & 10

Time has practically stood still inside this icon of Historic Downtown Branson! Not much has changed since this slice of American tradition opened more than 50 years ago. The sheer volume of candy, merchandise, trinkets, games, toys, and goodies is worth a visit and a short trip back in time.

Branson Centennial Museum

With such a collection of performers and celebrities passing through town, Branson has quite the history of its own. And while many visitors know about the bustling theatres and performance venues that have put Branson on the map, only a handful know how the star-studded city got its start as a small fishing town. Learn all about the city’s history at the Branson Centennial Museum.

Branson Scenic Railway

Besides all the theatres and music venues, one of Branson’s most impressive attractions is the natural beauty of the surrounding Ozark Mountains. To enjoy the scenic views through the tunnels and woodlands, hop on the Branson Scenic Railway from Historic Downtown Branson and settle in for a 40-mile scenic tour through the Ozarks.

Branson Mural

Whatever you do, make time to stop at the new Branson mural and snap a selfie. This is one of the latest additions to Historic Downtown Branson, and you can find it on the corner of Main Street and Sycamore. Just look for Cadwell’s Flea Market.
